2. try to have some coins in your pocket coz the public ticket machines only accept coins. There are ticket counters where u can get ticket there but they open only for certain time.
3. dont expect that english is quite useful there. I mean, for example, majority of restaurants only provide menu in Czech language and majority of the people there cant/dont speak english(from my experience)...at train station in certain places such as Decin, you cant find any english words on signboard, plan and so on but only Czech and German.
4. learn some simple Czech words; thank you = dyeeky
hello = dobree den
good bye = nas-hledanou
beer = pivo
please = proseem
5. if you travel to certain places by metro without buying ticket, please be aware that "ticket controllers" dont check your ticket in the train(i m not sure) but they are surely waiting outside, in front of the escalator. BETTER BUY TICKET LAA. its not expensive, daily ticket costs only around 5euro. Never ever use taxi, they will "kill you gao gao". metro train(Sun-Thu until 00:00, Fri-Sat until 1am), buses and trams are available for 24 hours!!!!
6. if you wanna drink beer or wanna have some conversation with people in bar or cafe, please open your eyes widely and try to understand the name of bars and pubs before entering. If you see something such as "erotik" and something related with sex, better dont go, you will surely be shock :P
7. if you are departing to Prague from other nearby cities such as Liberec(Czech), Budapest(Hungary), Berlin(Ger), Wroclaw(Poland) and so on, its faster(i think so) and cheaper(from my experience) if you go by bus instead of train. I was going to Prague from Dresden by train(15euro, I have Sachsen sem ticket!) but the problem was it took 5 hours as I had to wait for the train to Prague at Decin for almost 2 hours. Thats why i decided to use bus to go back to Dresden(15euro too + movie and radio!!) and took only 2.30hours!!!
8. If you are student from Sachsen state in Germany, you are recommended to get to Prague by doing so = -take a train to Bad Schandau(Ger), free, if you have semester ticket
-then buy a ticket from Bad Schandau ===> Decin (Czech) not free, price= 6-9euro
-Decin===>Prague, buy ticket at the counter with crowns (around 5 euro), CHEAP!!!
the journey from Decin to Prague takes you around 2 hours. THE TRAIN TRAVELS ALONG THE ELBE RIVER FOR THE WHOLE JOURNEY AND THE VIEW OUTSIDE IS TRANQUIL AND BEAUTIFUL!!
8. before going to Prague, you have to find where you are gonna stay. you have to consider these;
youth hostel, or apartment or hotel? price? location, izzit close to metro station and main attraction as well?
As a student, youth hostel is a good choice for us, because its much cheaper and we are able to get to know friends from all over the world. choose hostel which show you how to get there. If you have no idea how to get there, dont you hope that the tourist information is able to help you. "i" ONLY OPENS UNTIL 4.30pm IF NOT MISTAKEN.
9. if you have choice to pay either in Euro or Crowns in restaurant and so on, please pay in Crowns, coz from my experience(1 meal = 10.50euro or 249CZK), while 249CZK= 10 euro, tat means if you pay in Crowns, you save 50cents euro.
10. if you are going for money exchange in Prague, look at the rates carefully, sometimes, you can only get good rates if you exchange 200euro and more.
11. its recommended to leave about 20 CZK as a tip in restaurant
12. the "main station" is called as hlavní nádraží in czech.
13. there is FREE TOUR in Prague in english and spanish language as well. the tour starts at 11am and also 2pm.You have to gather in front of astronomical clock at old town. You will see a few people wearing yellow shirt and carrying yellow umbrella, they are you tour guide.
